Current and Past Updates-A Long Road To Recovery

11-10-10 Louis started to decline and needed to be brought back to Glen Ellyn Animal Hospital. With his Babesia http://www.2ndchance.info/babesia.htm diagnosis added to his Lyme and potential RMSF issue, he was immediately started on IV fluids and IV Doxycycline and Amoxicillin. As he could barely stand earlier in the day--he was sitting and then standing when Carol went to go visit him in the afternoon. The Babesia treatment starts today--please pray that our little baby does well.--Lisa

11-08-10 I finally got to meet Sweet Louis!! He is 100% American Field Bred English Pointer and he will have a beautiful 12 o'clock tail once he is all better and we get to work him on birds. With many months of TLC, he is going to be just fine. He is still not gaining weight--but once his liver starts to heal due to the Lyme disease and with the addition of digestive enzymes and other helpful supplements, he will gain weight soon enough. The Chicago Blackhawks have a slogan- ONE GOAL AT A TIME and with Louis it will be ONE POUND AT A TIME.

11-07-10 Kensington now renamed Louis--is in Chicago!! Thanks to Lisa and Alissa for getting him moved out of the south. Carol picked him up in St. Louis Sunday afternoon.

11-03-10 From Lisa: Today Louie is feeling well enough to start getting into trouble. It's right out of left field, but he's trying to tear everything he can get his teeth on and picking fights with Ecco (puppy play -- NOT with aggression). I had to chase him around for the doormat until he dropped it so he could dive into the stack of towels I'd just folded. He's also RUNNING around the yard with big energy, and I just know that he's scheming up a plot to infiltrate the chicken yard. By the way, he's also humping everything in sight (the cortisone, maybe?).

10-28-10 From Lisa M: Guess who got a much needed bath -- then crashed in his new outfit!

10-27-10 VIDEO!! http://illinoisbirddogrescue.org/images/IMG_0712.MOV Another great update from Lisa: Well, our boy is feeling his oats! This morning he pranced out of his crate and followed me out the back door like he does every morning. But instead of going out to the yard, he re-thought the whole plan and then turned and RAN back inside the house to poop on my kitchen floor! Maybe he wanted to spare me another early morning of following him around the yard in my bathrobe with a flashlight to analyze his stool! Bottom line: Kensington is acting more and more like life is wonderful and worth sticking around for. He hasn't shown a lot of interest in engaging with my dog but prefers to stick like glue to me. But his little tail wags often and hard and I think I'm beginning to notice the beginning of a layer of insulation covering his frame. At least it seems that his little ribs and backbone are losing the sharp outlines. True love of a dog. Healthier behavior and still doing well with food and meds. Lisa

10-26-10 From Lisa his foster mom: Today Kensington is looking for mischief to get into! He's nipping at my sleeve and refusing to go outdoors, thinking I have no business depriving him of a single minute of hugging and petting. Still eating with gusto and drinking A LOT and often. The antibiotic hasn't bothered him yet. His temperature is normal, and he's trotting around like a happy pointer. I'm enjoying this time with him. I've always been partial to the pointing breeds and have a young Spinone of my own to share my life with. WHAT A RELIEF!!

Video from Sunday 10-24 http://illinoisbirddogrescue.org/images/IMG_0708.MOV Just pitiful!!

OK--I have touched base with Cheryl and we have decided Kensington is too weak to move north. He is in a temporary foster home and I suggested he have some blood work done and also a fecal to rule our intestinal parasites. I started a ChipIn for him if you would like to help out http://ibr.chipin.com/kensington

Hello everyone, I was called about this dog that someone found laying in a ditch, and left for dead! This guy brought him to a vet (Bellevue Animal Clinic in Opelousas) and this dog is HW-, and weighs only 30 lbs, HE IS IN SERIOUS CONDITION, and could not be given shots at this time! He did get antibiotics and is looking better ( as per the man??????) I saw this dog today and it broke my heart. He is NOT being cared for, as he should in this condition. PLEASE I'm begging you to help him??? Do any of you know a Pointer Rescue? The vet thinks he is about 2 years as he does not have much plaque on his teeth, I looked! He is so sweet BUT soooo weak, does anyone have the time, place and patience to love this boy til I find a rescue?
